Economic evaluation of donepezil for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease in Canada

Article Abstract:

Treating milder forms of Alzheimer's disease (AD) with donepezil hydrochloride can lower medical costs in Canada. Researchers applied a Markov model to results comparing the benefits of donepezil therapy versus no drug treatment. Experts predict overall health care savings of $929 Canadian dollars per patient over five years of treatment with the new drug. Donepezil may also delay progression to severe AD by 2.4 months.
