Serum carontenoids and cerebral white matter lesions: the Rotterdam scan study

Article Abstract:

This study uses magnetic resonance imaging to examine the relationship between serum carotenoid concentrations and the prevalence of lesions on cerebral white matter in adults over sixty. Results indicate that elevated serum levels of carotenoids may have a protective effect against white matter lesions in certain brain regions.

Blood pressure components and cardiovascular events in older adults: The Rotterdam study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare the strength of the relative risks of systolic (SBP) diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and pulse pressure (PP) as predictors of myocardial infraction and stroke in older adults. The results of the study suggest that in a population of healthy older adults, PP is not a better predictor of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality than SBP.
