Division of labor by gender and postmarital residence in cross-cultural perspective: reconsideration

Article Abstract:

The relationship between determinants of postmarital residence and division of labor by gender would be found if the societies with an extremely low female contribution to subsistence were contrasted with the rest of the world cultures. Five various sets of coded data on female contribution to subsistence is used to perform a series of worldwide cross-cultural tests.

Evolutionary theory, kinship, and childbirth in cross-cultural perspective

Article Abstract:

Evolutionary theory is combined with the anthropological study of kinship in order to study the cross-cultural diversity in birth-related investments by kin. The results have shown that paternal certainty is a better predictor of direct birth care than kinship laterality and kinship laterality is a better predictor of indirect care.

Article Abstract:

The proposition that the division of labor on the basis of gender among clothes makers in nonindustrial societies is associated with the relative dependence of the artisan's family on commercial production is analyzed.
