Ethnic identification and nationalist movements

Article Abstract:

A conceptual framework for the study of ethnic nationalism is provided by analyzing the encounters between ethnic identification and the state. The conflicting forces spawned by these two societal groupings underlie different forms of political instability, which may range from manageable tensions to secessionist movements and internal wars. Ethnicity is considered of central theoretical value to the social sciences. A clear understanding of ethnic nationalism is essential for evolving appropriate policies, educational, constitutional and other legal means for accommodating cultural diversity.

Econometric models of company dividends can be used to identify underpriced shares

Article Abstract:

The use of an econometric model of corporate dividends to predict the value of stocks is discussed. It is shown that despite the validity of such a methodology and its more efficient result as compared to those generated by other methods, professional fund managers do not generally favor it because of their fear of long-term risk and their tendency to value short-term results.

Graphical models for causation, and the identification problem

Article Abstract:

Graphical models for causation are set up and the logical basis for inferring causation from regression equations are reviewed. The identification problem is posed in terms of conditionals and it is seen that there are few successful applications of graphical models because few causal pathways can be excluded on a priori grounds.
