Having it both ways: the incompatibility of narrative identity and communicative ethics in feminist thought

Article Abstract:

The idea of narrative identity is considered an enlarged notion of subjectivity, and the concept of narrative self is known to create a gap between the ideas of communication ethics. The narrative concept of self within the theory of communication ethics results in a limited understanding of identity and systematic reproduction of gender inequalities.

Gender, habitus and the field: Pierre Bourdieu and the limits of reflexivity

This article focuses on theories of reflexive identity transformation in relation to issues of gender identity. Topics addressed include criticisms of theories that reproduce a masculine decontextualized subject, and the work of Pierre Bourdieu which provides a greater understanding of the social context of the transformation of gender identities.
