Johnson led the way for civil rights

Article Abstract:

US 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Frank M. Johnson's record on civil rights, especially in key 1950s-1960s precedent-setting desegregation and voting rights cases, deserves praise. Perhaps his most memorable decisions date back to the 1960s when he ruled in favor of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s right to march across Alabama and when he refused to impose busing to remedy Montgomery County's school segregation but ordered racial parity amongst public school teachers. Judge Johnson has remained a staunch civil rights supporter, issuing critical criminals', women's and free speech rights decisions.

Going into partnership with Jesus

Article Abstract:

The Christian Legal Society (CLS) was founded in 1961 by attorneys who wanted to live out their faith in their workaday lives in addition to Sundays. CLS founded the Center for Law and Religious Freedom in 1975 to fight for Christian student groups' right to meet in state-funded facilities as did other school organizations. CLS is a grassroots organization which asks lawyers from its membership to handle litigation relating to the organization's concerns. Legal aid to the poor is considered another important part of the group's work.
