Migration under uncertainty: "try your luck" or "wait and see"

Article Abstract:

A migration theory model was designed to measure the uncertainty level in migration decisions. The model differentiates locally observable variables from remotely observable variables, and ascertains future evolution of all variables with uncertainty. The study showed that in a partly stable setting, uncertainty on current conditions of destination country may give rise to "try your luck" migration. The study also showed that uncertainty on the future evolution of both foreign and domestic conditions may give rise to a "wait and see" behavior. The study further revealed that when the labor market is stable, chance migration does not occur, and uncertainty of the future deters relocation.

Competitive location under uncertainty of costs

Article Abstract:

A centroid problem in competitive location theory was formulated as a nonlinear programming problem for evaluating a scenario involving two firms. The competitive location model indicated the minor effects of rival costs-uncertainty on the market and to the participating firms. Furthermore, participating firms who participate in the market observe the behavior of rival firms based on the competitive location model.

An integrated network equilibrium model of urban location and travel choices

Article Abstract:

A modeling of urban location and travel choice problem to study the optimal strategy to reduce congestion shows that the problem can be treated as a convex optimization problem whose solution is through a convergent method of successive averages. The modeling takes into consideration agent's location of residence and workplace, with options provided by varying state of employment or the state of residence.
