Paulo Friere's legacy of hope and struggle

Article Abstract:

Paul Friere, who died 5/2/97, was born 9/19/21 in Recife in the northeast part of Brazil. He became legendary in the field of education, was a courageous scholar, social activist, and cultural worker and was internationally known for developing an anti-imperialist and anticapitalist literacy praxis used all over the world by progressive educators. Yet he was admired for his integrity and humility. He felt a need to devote himself to the area of adult literacy and first worked with farm workers after early work as a member of the faculty of law at the Universidade do Recife.
