Unravelling the cognitive and interorganizational structure of public/private R&D networks: a case study of catalysis research in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

The maximization of interaction between public and private research and development facilities in the Dutch science and technology system has significance in the formulation of policy. Catalysis as a sub-domain of the industrial chemistry industry is a research-dependent sector that affects economy because of its relation to chemical and food industries. Results from analysis of the said industry reveals areas for improvement with regards to the elimination of redtape in government financed projects and the determination of industrial R&D needs and research capacity.

Transnational cooperation and policy networks in European science policy-making

Article Abstract:

An empirical study of the function of transnational companies in European science and technology policy and of the policy networks formed between these organizations and supranational companies. Results showed that because of the strong horizontal and vertical segmentation of transnational participation and interest intermediation, science, industry and politics are only weakly related to European science and technology policy.

Issues are presented concerning the influence which the Europeanization of public policy, and the increase in globalization of business enterprises, markets and technologies has had on the technology policies in Europe.
