An evaluation of NicCheck I: a dipstick method for analyzing nicotine and its metabolites

Article Abstract:

NicCheck I, a urine test strip for determining the urinary concentration of nicotine and its metabolites, is sensitive to differences in nicotine intake and may have the potential to provide a quantitative index of nicotine and its metabolites. However, the technology still needs refinement and evaluation. This preliminary evaluation involved the testing of urine samples from smokers by two independent raters using the NicCheck I test strips, with each comparing the test strip color to a five-color chart. An examination of the correlations between the rater's codings and between the coding and other measures of nicotine intake showed significant correlations.
