Effects of cooperative and competitive outcome dependency on attention and impression preferences

Article Abstract:

Three studies were conducted to determine the consequences of the different types of dependence on the motive to form different impressions. Results show that each type of dependence elicits different motives, which may affect the person's perception. Specifically, cooperative and competitive dependence invokes different motives which can influence a person's perception, which is also affected by liking, attention and judgements of outcome-related abilities.
