Effects of reinforcement history on response rate and response pattern in periodic reinforcement

Article Abstract:

Several researchers have suggested that conditioning history might have long-term effects on fixed-interval performances of rats and to test this and identify possible factors involved in temporal control development, groups of rats initially are exposed to different reinforcement schedules. No evidence of long-term effects attributable to conditioning history on either response output or response patterning is found and the history effects are transitory.

The sensitivity of response rate to the rate of variable-interval reinforcement for pigeons and rats: A review

Article Abstract:

The relation between the rate of response (B) and the rate of its enforcement (R) is known to be approximately hyperbolic, B-kR/(R+R0), where k represents the maximum response rate, and R0 indicates the rate of reinforcers. The pigeon-rat difference in R0 ensures that for reinforcer rates above 10 per hour, response rate will be noticeably less sensitive to changes in reinforcer rate with pigeons than with rats.

The effects of differing response-force requirements on fixed-ratio responding of rats

Article Abstract:

Multiple food delivery schedules were used to analyse the effects of alternative response force requirements on the fixed-ratio responding of rats. The results indicate that increased response force leads to a decrease in mean response rates, affects postreinforcement pauses and increases interresponse times. Relative effects of increased force are not however related to the size of the fixed-ratio.
