The effects of PTSD on treatment adherence, drug relapse, and criminal recidivism in a sample of incarcerated men and women

Article Abstract:

An exploratory study conducted to examine the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders (SUD) among men and women involved in prison-based substance abuse treatment is presented. The findings suggest that trauma-related disorders, among those with SUD, affect post incarceration outcomes and therefore interventions addressing this co-occurring disorders should be available to men and women within the criminal justice system.
