Ethnonational aspects of national state development in Ukraine

Article Abstract:

Economic collapse of the Soviet Union has helped many Ukranians shift their efforts from maintaining a culture to creating a democratic nation. The concept of developing the "ethnic mosaic" proposed by B.J. Singer would establish normative communities that, with an improved economic situation, would produce positive nation-building.

Individual income gains and losses in Ukraine, 1993-1996: a test of the human capital and mental adjustment hypotheses

Article Abstract:

Data from a national Ukrainian survey shows most citizens share two views about income determinants. These are that higher education means greater wages, and that support for systemic change significantly determines further income gains or losses.

Entrepreneurs and perspectives for the emergence of the middle classes in post-Communist Ukraine

Article Abstract:

Entrepreneurship is emerging as a tool to create a middle class in the Ukraine. Currently unable to exert significant political pressure, entrepreneurs tend to have heterogeneous backgrounds and ambivalent socioeconomic attitudes.
