Frequent childhood geographic relocation: its impact on drug use initiation and the development of alcohol and other drug-related problems among adolescents and young adults

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the association between the timing of onset of drug use and progression to drug-related problems and the number of geographic moves before the age of 16 in a sample of 3,700 young adults. Positive relationships were found between moving and early initiation of illegal drugs such as hallucinogens, marijuana cocaine and other prescribed drugs. Males who moved around a lot were more likely to engage in early drug use than females.
