Home care: moving forward with continuous quality improvements

Article Abstract:

Continuous quality improvements in home care are derived from outcome-based quality improvements (OBQI) analysis over a time period. A longitudinal primary data demonstrates the value of outcome assessments in home care. Results reveal better outcomes for urban home health care patients than rural patients. Comparative outcomes under Medicare Health Maintenance Organizations and free-for-service patients reveal a positive volume-outcome relationship. The findings suggest a reexamination of managed care practices to develop comprehensive OBQI strategies for home care.

Case management in home and community care

Article Abstract:

There is an evident paradigm shift from institutional care to community and home care. Case management will be essential in consolidating the acute, sub-acute and community care systems and meeting the needs of consumers. Several mechanisms are available to measure the viability and success of case management. Quality improvement is a very important aspect of long-term care case management especially in the areas of consumer protection and enhancement of case management clinical practice.

Challenges for the home care supervisor

Article Abstract:

A home care supervisor ensures that the delivery of service is in accordance with administrative directives. The supervisor also assures the home care client and family caregivers that adequate service is being provided to enhance quality of life. The supervisor is also accountable to supervisees for their training, consultation and on-going support. The supervisor must see to it that all of these responsibilities are being done equally.
