Improving your agency's image

Article Abstract:

The image and public perception of housing and community development (H CD) programs can be improved on the regional, state and local levels if public relations strategies are employed effectively. They can enhance public awareness, knowledge, acceptance, and support of a particular agency, which can prove useful when it decides later to seek legislative support or funding for its various programs. Public relations strategies that may be used include personal contacts, community involvement, mutually beneficial relationships with elected officials and community business personalities, and favorable media relations. H CD agencies must always have three objectives when doing public relations. They are to keep the public aware of the agency, its programs, its activities, and community services; to foster and manage positive ties with all sectors of the community; and to identify problems or situations that may damage the reputation of the agency.
