Job stress, perceived inequity and burnout among school social workers in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

Job stress and perceived inequity is examined as correlates of burnout among school social workers, in a context of drastic changes introduced by the Hong Kong government to improve the cost-effectiveness of social welfare services. Steps to describe burnout as a stress syndrome comprising an identifiable cluster of feelings and behaviors most commonly found in stressful or highly frustrating work environments are taken.

Exploring emancipatory youth work: The case of Hong Kong outreach workers

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to develop an in-depth understanding of power and resistance in the everyday practice of workers in Hong Kong, conducting interviews with 18 youth workers from July to September 1998. It was indicated that the outreaching social work service in Hong Kong is based on a problem-oriented philosophy, and the principal function of the outreach workers is to relieve youth problems faced by the government.

Medical social workers in Hong Kong hospitals: expectation, authority structure and role ambiguity

Article Abstract:

A study conducted in Hong Kong seeks to understand medical social workers' roles in hospitals and their professional relationship with other medical practitioners. The results demonstrated that medical social workers and nurses and physicians had different expectations of the medical social workers role, and medical social workers often worked under the authority of the physician, which affected their roles.
