Natural resolution of alcohol problems without treatment: environmental contexts surrounding the initiation and maintenance of stable abstinence or moderation drinking

Article Abstract:

The resolution of alcoholism without treatment was elucidated by examining the environmental events affecting the achievement of moderation drinking or stable abstinence over a multi-year time period. Results of the analysis of variance suggested that the subjects were more inclined to report more positive effects over time. Moreover, ameliorated life conditions after the initial change in behavior are linked with long-term success and may contribute to sustained maintenance.

Community prevention of alcohol problems

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates a community-based program designed to prevent alcohol-related problems. Findings indicate that changes in policies that increased drunk driving enforcement, developed community support, and established clear standards for selling alcohol in bars and retail outlets resulted in reductions in alcohol-related accidents and sales to minors while increasing community awareness.
