Non-biomedical health care practices in the State of Morelos, Mexico: analysis of an emergent phenomenon

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the emergence of non-biomedical health practices in Morelos, Mexico, categorized as alternative medicine, traditional or folk medicine, and faith healing. Significant differences exist between the educational background of practitioners, their development and use of therapist networks, their decisions to engage in a particular practice, and the populations they serve; further research is recommended.

What is heterosexual coercion? Interpreting narratives from young people in Mexico City

Article Abstract:

Interviews with young people in Mexico City's low-income areas are used to examine the concept of sexual coercion. The author argues that it is not possible to define coercion objectively, as it can include experiences that are not viewed by the "victims" as coercive.

Determinants of medical employment in urban Mexico: ascription, achievement and context

Article Abstract:

This article examines the staffing of physicians in urban areas of Mexico. The authors maintain unemployment and underemployment of physicians is a significant problem in urban Mexico, especially regarding the unemployment of female physicians.
