Regional impulses

Article Abstract:

The regional functionings of metropolitan areas are influenced by the nature, strength and interaction of regional impulses. These impulses are factors, such as structures, processes, partnerships and practices, that prompt local governments and other interest groups to achieve regional outcomes. Ten regional impulses are identified: natural resource, growth, centrality, macroeconomic, equity, social, political, legal, fiscal and historical. A case study of regional impulses in the Buffalo metropolitan area is discussed.
