Sociology, extreme environments and social change

Article Abstract:

Sociologists are just beginning to recognize the interconnections between human communities and the environment. Environmental conditions and perceived environmental threats can be responsible for social change. The impact of technology on the environment has created a new dimension in the interaction between humans and the environment, especially where knowledge of health risks are concerned. This has limited people's awareness of some risks while increasing fears about issues such as sick offices.
