Specific classes of symptoms predict readiness to change scores among dually diagnosed patients

Article Abstract:

The Transtheoretical Stages of Change model assumes that the negative effects of substance abuse must be greater than the benefits before change can happen. It was determined whether substance-related disadvantages indicated readiness to change. Findings showed that the relative intensity of physical, mood and behavior symptoms may be significant factors affecting the readiness to change among dually diagnosed patients.

Predictors of change in binge drinking over a 3-month period

Article Abstract:

Research points out that lower self-efficacy and greater alcohol expectancies predict binge drinking episodes, while greater positive alcohol expectancies predict alcohol consumption as revealed in a study of 76 young adults of 18-32 age groups. Data suggest young adults exhibiting lower self-efficacy and positive alcohol expectancies may be at risk for a worsening binge pattern over time.
