Using evidence-based knowledge to improve policies and practices in child welfare: Current thinking and continuing challenges

Article Abstract:

The aim of the study is to explore the importance of using evidence-based knowledge to improve policies, practices and outcomes in the child welfare system. Some researchers of the Child Welfare Research Interest Group gave this idea. All the data provided from such studies serve as a dialogue and starting point for advocating the use of evidence-based interventions for the problems of children, youth, and their parents.

An assessment of the utility of the Child Behavior Checklist/4-18 for social work practice

Article Abstract:

The structure of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), which is used to measure children's emotional and behavioral problems, is evaluated. The authors maintain that while the CBCL offers valuable information regarding a child's emotional and behavioral problems it is less useful for information regarding diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation.

Evaluating the effects of comprehensive substance abuse intervention on successful reunification

Article Abstract:

A study was undertaken to assess the impact of participation in an intensive service program on time to reunification and reentry of children into foster care after reunification. Results showed that parental substance abuse was a clearly major contributor to children entering and remaining in foster care and drug treatment systems.
