Assessment of speed of human locomotion using a differential satellite global positioning system

Article Abstract:

Speed of human locomotion has been measured using a differential satellite global positioning system (DGPS). The DGPS technique seems to be valid and inconspicuous as a way to monitor online the speed of displacement of those located on any earth field for long periods and unlimited distance, but only in specific environmental conditions. Accuracy of the measurements using the DGPS mode was better by a factor of 10 vs nondifferential GPS.

The prediction of speed and incline in outdoor running in humans using accelerometry

Article Abstract:

Triaxial accelerometry can be used to estimate the speed and, to a lesser degree, the incline of terrain during outdoor running. Neural networks were designed to recognize running patterns and calculate speed and incline. Treadmill running was extrapolated using multiple regression analysis and then compared with actual outdoor runs.
