Article Abstract:

The presence of contaminants is a given in all hydraulic and lubrication systems. Over 80% of problems that occur in hydraulic systems can be traced to contaminants in the circulating fluid. The setting of a threshold value for lubricating systems is therefore of vital importance. However, the current techniques used in evaluating the level of contaminants in lubricating oils might be inadequate. A thorough understanding of such factors as bacterial and fungal contamination might be in order.
