The Cruise and Ferry Exhibition will take place at Olympia 2, London, from May 13-15 1997. Fast ferry and cruise ship builders will make up 70% of delegates. Among those participating in the exhibition are companies from Australia, which has 80% of the market for fast ferries, Ireland, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Finland, Germany, Austria and France.

"Just-in-time" production and purchasing

Article Abstract:

The Japanese "just-in-time approach to inventory and production control can aid purchasing departments as well as manufacturers. The "just-in-time" concept may not be of practical application to all products or purchases. The Japanese system focuses on suppliers as partners rather than adversaries.

Leading cruise ship operators such as Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL) and Carnival, are ceasing to build more large ships after an intense phase. The chairman of Norwegian Cruise Line fears overcapacity, but he is in the minority. Carnival and RCCL both predict increased net revenue for 1997.
