Arsenale de Venezia (Venice, Italy), a shipyard which used to be owned by Fincantieri, is among smaller independent repair yards in the country. The yard is repairing the Calitea, a tanker, on whose successful repair other contracts in the industry could depend. There is also hope that contracts could materialize through the European Union in the Middle East. According to Raymond Currie, the yard's business manager, low freight rates are stopping ship owners from having ships repaired.
