Standing firm for a fair deal

Article Abstract:

Denmark's shipping and shipbuilding industries are adapting to the country's shipping policies, such as increased taxation and higher production cost. Companies, such as Odense Lindo, Danyard, Aarhus Dockyard Ltd. and Nordsovaerftet, experience no adverse effects from Denmark's new economic policy. Denmark's new economic policies, which do not include any expansion in shipbuilding capacity, have stabilized the market and revitalized the outlook for the future of the shipping industry.

France under fire

Article Abstract:

Tax breaks being granted by the French government under the Quirats scheme are geared to boost activity in the shipping sector. To date, financing for two container ships, Ville de Virgo and Ville d'Antares, as well as a secondhand chemical carrier Matagrifone for Navale Francaise has been approved by the French tax regulators. The Quirats scheme comes at a time when French yards are battered by a strong competition with Far Eastern facilities and a strong franc.
