Cost cutters: energy efficiency programmes can create huge savings for leisure centres and benefit the environment

Article Abstract:

Energy management is often ignored but can create major savings for leisure centres. Energy expenditure can represent 30% of a sports centre's operating costs, although easily implemented changes such as replacing tungsten lighting with compact fluorescent tubes could result in a 40-70% energy saving. Properly fitted pool covers can reduce heat loss allowing heating and ventilation systems to be turned off overnight.
