Cruise firm fines pour oil on troubled waters

Article Abstract:

Two court cases have reignited fears concerning the effects of cruising on the environment. Cruise companies have made efforts to demonstrate their environmental awareness, and the advent new technologies should allow bigger ships to store their waste rather than dump it directly into the ocean. However, in May 1998, a US court fined Royal Caribbean Cruises the record sum of $9 million for discharging waste oil into the sea near Puerto Rico, and in Jun 1998 a court fined Holland America Line $2 million for discharging oil into the ocean near Alaska.

Trip on the Nile is one to treasure

Article Abstract:

Many of the most interesting sights in Egypt are situated along the banks of the Nile. This means that a cruise on the Nile is an ideal way of visiting Egypt. The visitor does not have to undertake any road travel, and there is no need to check in and out of hotels. It is particularly worth selecting a cruise which covers the 135-mile stretch between Luxor and the High Dam at Aswan, as this includes many temples and tombs. Those wishing to become more closely acquainted with Egypt's archaeology would probably not find a cruise holiday suitable.

RCCL sets sights on Europe

Article Abstract:

Four large European ports will be visited by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL) through three-day visits by its new Vision Class ship. This is part of plans by the company to attract business from European travel agents. It carried 900,000 passengers in 1995, and believes that the European market offers considerable potential. It is particularly keen to emphasise that ordinary people can afford a cruise holiday.
