Pragmatism in Bulgaria

Article Abstract:

Bulgarian politics in the early 1990s has two major parties, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the Union of Democratic Forces. The BSP is the old Communist Party with a new name, and it is unclear whether a party with the burden of that past can gain acceptance as a democratic opposition. Restitution of land appropriated by the Communists after World War II and privatization of industry are proving to be complex, long-drawn-out issues. The economic situation is very unstable, with raw materials and fuel in short supply and a large foreign debt. Long-term prospects are more hopeful.

More fumble than fun

Article Abstract:

Many teenage girls experience a wide range of emotions when they first contemplate becoming sexually active. Adults often find it hard to come to terms with what is happening to these girls, and therefore pretend nothing is happening, rather than offering support and advice. In many cases, teenage girls become sexually active simply as a result of peer pressure, as they do not want to be different from their friends.
