Article Abstract:

There has been a strong rise in cinema attendance in the UK recently, with 12% of adults now visiting a cinema once a month. This trend has been fuelled partly by the fact that there have been a considerable number of high quality films and partly by the development of multiplex cinemas. These venues offer a wide choice of films and easy parking and booking. Cinema operators tend to prefer out-of-town sites for multiplex developments, but such sites are being closely controlled by government planning guidelines.
