Article Abstract:

Stakis PLC Chief Executive David Michels confirms the company intends to increase its market by extending brand awareness amongst customers. Stakis utilizes its comprehensive data base which allows it to promote its business more widely. Stakis has three types of business hotels, casinos and LivingWell, its health and fitness outlets. Michels points out the company plans to make further investments in all three sectors despite the decline in the UK economy. Michels joined Stakis when it had severe financial problems but by 1998 its market value reached 700 million pounds sterling.

Making golf's card

Article Abstract:

The UK currently has around 2,600 golf courses, with a further 35 planned for 1995, 100 under construction, 500 with planning permission and 270 seeking planning permission. However, many golf courses are experiencing financial difficulties, and banks are becoming very cautious about lending money for new schemes. Concern is also being expressed about the increasing influence of the Global Anti-Golf Movement.
