The travel motivations of Canadian ecotourists

Article Abstract:

Studies conducted on the preferences of Canadian ecotourists indicate a leaning towards wilderness, water, mountains, parks and rural settings. The sample group studied listed the need for physical activity, new lifestyles, meeting people with similar interests, and adventure as their main motivations for travelling to ecotourism destinations. Ecotourism is a growing and a popular activity in Canada that is an exciting alternative to conventional forms of tourism.

Ecotourism: ethics or eco-sell?

Article Abstract:

Ecotourism can be seen in terms of resource conservation and marketing perspectives. However, ecotourism's marketing aspect often involves the exploitation of consumer interest in the environment to sell certain products. Although the two aspects may seem to be in conflict with each other, they need not be mutually exclusive; both can complement each other. Both views need to be effectively integrated to sustain industry and resources over the long term.

A code of ethics and guidelines for socially and environmentally responsible tourism

Article Abstract:

The Canadian government supports the call for the development of a code of ethics and guidelines for socially and ecologically responsible tourism. To this end, it has established the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE). Since the Canadian tourist industry is heavily dependent on the environment, the NRTEE asked it to be one of the first participants in the formulation of an ethical code for ecotourism.
