A new lease on life

Article Abstract:

The Reptile House, Baltimore Zoo, was renovated in 1993 to provide a natural habitat to its reptiles, most of which are endangered species. The installation of air conditioners, thermostats, and humidifiers have given the animals a favorable ambience. Between 1993 and 1995, 300 reptiles and amphibians consisting of 20 species reproduced as compared to the 21 species which reproduced in the first 40 years of the Reptile House's existence. Anthony Wisnieski, curator at the Reptile House, feels that the surplus animals should be shifted to zoos.
