A scaling law for slow earthquakes

Article Abstract:

The slow earthquakes have followed a simple, unified scaling relationship, which has differentiated their behavior from that of regular earthquakes. A constant low-stress drop model or a diffusional constant-slip model is used to describe the scale dependence of rupture velocity for these events and a new scaling law has unified a diverse class of slow seismic events in order to understand the plate subduction process and large earthquake generation.

Capturing human behavior

Article Abstract:

The policy-makers have started adopting and developing new epidemic models, which provide brief information about the epidemic and individual or group behavior, which makes the understanding of the dynamics of infectious-disease transmission, a difficult job. The author suggests that understanding such phenomenon can help in epidemic modeling that can even change one's views on the interaction between the society and the disease.
