To build bridges, or to burn them

Article Abstract:

A radical environmental movement in the northwestern United States physically attacked the laboratories of scientists because they deemed the scientists' investigations undesirable. It is suggested that scientists should desist from sneering at emotional argument and demonstrate that science can help in investigating the plethora of difficult problems facing humanity.

Pathogenesis and therapy of psoriasis

Article Abstract:

Psoriasis is a common human skin disease that is characterized by excessive growth and aberrant differentiation of keratinocytes. The new therapies for psoriasis have targeted its immune components and have predicted potential treatments for other inflammatory human diseases.

A new class of research systems is evolving that uses a range of new physical and chemical approaches to monomolecular physics. A discussion of the new classes of research tools that have evolved from the adaptation of such approaches to lab-on-a-chip formats is provided.
