Aliens: exotic species are invading North America's lakes, rivers, and streams

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the dangerous effects of invasive species that may arrive from the waters of one part of the world, such as the Baltic Sea, into the waters of another, such as the Great Lakes, are examined. Topics include how species can be transported in the ballast water of international ships, how fishhook fleas have destroyed the sport of fishing in New York's Finger Lakes, the $123 bil in annual damages invasive species such as zebra mussels cause, and the need to prevent invasion and protect native species.
