An unusual supernova in the error box of the gamma-ray burst of 25 April 1998

Article Abstract:

A transient optical emission in the error box of the gamma-ray burst GRB980425 was discovered, with a light curve very different to that of previous optical afterglows linked to gamma-ray bursts. Its optical spectra and location suggest that it is a luminous supernova identified as SN1998bw, and if linked to GRB980425, the energy radiated in gamma-rays is about four orders of magnitudes less than other gamma-ray bursts.

Charon's size and an upper limit on its atmosphere from a stellar occultation

Article Abstract:

Observations from a multi-station stellar occultation by Pluto's satellite Charon which is used to derive a radius, Rc=603.6(plusmn)1.4 km (1 sigma), and a density of rho = 1.71(plusmn 0.08) g cm(super -3) is reported. This occultation also provides upper limits of 110 and 15 nanobar for an atmosphere around Charon, assuming respectively a pure nitrogen or pure methane atmosphere.
