Arctic freshwater forcing of the Younger Dryas cold reversal

Article Abstract:

An ensemble of simulations of the drainage chronology of the North American ice sheet is analyzed in order to identify the geographical release points of freshwater forcing during deglaciation. During the onset of Younger Dryas, it is found that the largest combined meltwater/iceberg discharge was directed into the Arctic Ocean and it was this Arctic freshwater flux that triggered the Younger Dryas cold reversal.

High interannual variability of sea in the Artic region

Article Abstract:

The mean thickness field and its variability from 65-degree north to 81.5-degree north is determined by conducted using an eight-year time-series of Artic ice thickness, derived from satellite altimeter measurement of ice freeboard. Results suggested that a continued increase in melt season length would lead to further thinning of Artic sea ice.

Hydrothermal activity on Gakkel Ridge

Article Abstract:

The process of hydrothermal circulation, which results in the formation of hot fluids enriched in various chemical elements, is described. A survey of the ultra-slowly spreading Gakkel Ridge suggests that, instead of being rare, the hydrothermal activity is abundant.
