Earthworms and lipid couriers

Article Abstract:

The proteins and lipids in the membrane are transported from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), where they are created, to their final destination, by means of small-containers or vesicles. Lipids, however, do not go through this process due to the existence of CERT, a protein that conveys the lipid precursor ceremide from the ER to the Golgi apparatus.

POT1 as a terminal transducer of TRF1 telomere length control

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on human telomere which is important for chromosome end protection. The authors report that TTAGGG-repeat-binding protein TRF1 and its interacting partners regulating human telomere interact with single-stranded telomeric DNA-binding protein POT1, and that POT1 controls telomerase-mediated telomere elongation.

Moesin functions antagonistically to the Rho pathway to maintain epithelial integrity

Article Abstract:

Epithelial cells with apical-basal polarity and a highly ordered cytoskeleton are dependent on the Moesin protein in Drosophila, according to researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cells which lack Moesin lose epithelial characteristics. Moesin apparently acts by antagonizing activity of the GTPase Rho.
