Effects of human activity on the structure of coastal marine bird assemblages in central Chile

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted in central Chile regarding the effects of human recreational activities on assemblages of marine birds. The results prove that the need to consider human recreational activities along with the establishing conservation programs because harvesting refugia or no-take zone will not provide protection to coastal bird assemblages unless human access is restricted.

Effects of habitat fragmentation on bird species in a relict temperate forest in semiarid Chile

Article Abstract:

The structure and composition of a bird assemblage in a fragmented relict temperate forest located in north central Chile (Fray Jorge National Park) is analyzed. The results suggest that for south-temperate forest birds, large fragments (or reserves) should afford better protection extinction than small forest patches.

Effects of Human Exclusion on Parasitism in Intertidal Food Webs of Central Chile

Article Abstract:

Variations in trematode parasitism infection for mussels, limpets, and clingfish are examined for coastal marine reserves and open-access areas. Infection rates were found to be higher in reserves; further research is needed on the effects of human impact on host and parasite communities.
