Escape response delays in wintering redshank, Tringa totanus, flocks: Perceptual limits and economic decisions

Article Abstract:

Variation in the escape response delays is explained with the help of two nonmutually exhaustive hypotheses. It is concluded that once the flock started to respond to the detectors, benefits gained through the dilution and confusion effects decreased rapidly, so that immediate escape is the optimal response.

Predator protection or similar habitat selection in red-breasted goose nesting associations: extremes along a continuum

Article Abstract:

Research tested the predator protection and similar habitat hypothesis of the red-breasted goose. Findings support the hypothesis that such geese like to nest near raptors.
