Experimental investigation of geologically produced antineutrinos with KamLAND

Article Abstract:

The results from a search for geoneutrinos with Kamioka liquid scintillator antineutrino detector (KamLAND) are presented. KamLAND has the sensitivity to detect electron antineutrinos produced by the decay of (super 238)U and (super 232)Th within the Earth and Earth composition suggest that the radiogenic power from these isotope decays is 16 TW, which is approximately half of the total measured heat dissipation rate from the Earth.

Coherent dynamics of flux qubit coupled to a harmonic oscillator

Article Abstract:

Single-qubit operations(super 2-6), direct coupling between two qubits and the realization of a quantum gate are reported. An entanglement between a superconducting flux qubit (a two-level system) and a super-conducting quantum interference device (SQUID) is demonstrated.

Dissociative hydrogen adsorption on palladium requires aggregates of three or more vacancies

Article Abstract:

Materials scientists explore how molecules adsorb and dissociate when exposed to a catalyst. Dissociative adsorption of H2 molecules on palladium require aggregates of three or more hydrogen vacancies in order to catalyze efficiently.
