Extinction of a West African red colobus monkey

Article Abstract:

The first documented case of the extinction of a primate taxon, red colobus monkey is provided. A primate taxon monkey is generally found in the forests of West Africa. Hunting by humans is the ultimate cause of the extinction.

Prediction of Parasite Infection Dynamics in Primate Metapopulations Based on Attributes of Forest Fragmentation

Article Abstract:

Research on red colobus metapopulations living in Ugandan forest fragments shows that human presence and forest degradation increased parasitic nematode prevalence. Implications are discussed.

Long-term effects of logging on African primate communities: a 28-year comparison from Kibale National Park, Uganda

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that a low-intensity selective logging does not affect African primate conservation. However, high-intensity logging is not compatible with primate conservation plans.
