Laying their dead to rest

Article Abstract:

Forensic investigations of dead bodies are increasingly being used as part of human-rights inquiries. Some observers point out people need a body to mourn therefore using forensics to establish the identity of dead bodies, following atrocities, can help families to mourn. Forensics are also used to establish if a crime has been committed. Discovering the identities of dead bodies and the causes of their death is seen as an important part of human-rights. Many cases of war crimes have been investigated by forensic experts, such as in the former Yugoslavia.
