Germany seeks 'non-modified' food label

Article Abstract:

Germany and Austria are looking at the problem of how non-genetically engineered foods should be defined and labelled. Farmers and certain food manufacturers want to label products as free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), but even the most careful products cannot guarantee that their products are free of contamination by foreign DNA. Biotechnology companies are developing sensitive tests for potentially contaminating genes.

Europeans adapt to compete with US neuroscience body

Article Abstract:

The European Neuroscience Association is changing its name in a bid to combat the general apathy of European scientific societies. The newly-named Federation of European Neuroscience Societies, which is aiming to compete with its US rival, is also making financial savings and changing its structure so that fewer meetings are held each year and more responsibility is given to local organisers.
