How to melt if you must

Article Abstract:

Recent research has proved a hypothesis by Ennio de Giorgi, who died in Oct 1996, that makes it possible to calculate what takes place as a melting boundary is crossed. This research used a variational technique relying on minimizing the energy integrals connected with certain equations. It is now known that there is something about eight-dimensional spaces that makes them inherently different from seven-dimensional ones.

Counting up to four

Article Abstract:

Tim Gowers has proved that any alignment of marbles with density delta not containing four evenly spaced marbles, must have less than exp(exp(1/deltaC)) marbles, where C is a constant not dependent on delta. His method builds on Roth's inspiration of using Fourier analysis, and is not limited to k = 4. The result increase hope that the famous problem in number theory could finally be solve.
