Interaction between a transcriptional activator and transcription factor IIB in vivo

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine whether or not the activity of the glutamine-rich fushi tarazu activation domain is mediated by interactions with transcription factor II B (TFIIB). The study involved the transfection of Drosophila Schneider L2 cells with an expression plasmid encoding the 315-amino-acid Drosophila TFIIB protein whose N-terminus is fused to an 11-amino-acid epitope tag. The results showed that the activity of the activation domain is indeed mediated by ointeractions with TFIIB.

Transcription factor TFIID recruits CPSF for formation of 3' end of mRNA

Article Abstract:

Assembly of the preinitiation complex that initiates transcription by RNA polymerase II from a promoter region on DNA is induced by the binding of the TFIID transcription factor to the promoter. TFIID comprises TATA-box binding protein and TBP-associated factors. An immunopurified TFIID complex has been discovered that unexpectedly contains the cleavage-polyadenylation specificity factor, required for formation of 3' end messenger RNA. Details of the study are presented.

Splicing-related catalysis by protein-free snRNAs

Article Abstract:

It has been established that a protein-free complex of two small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) can bind and position a small RNA which holds the sequence of the intron branch site. This work shows the ability of protein-free spliceosomal snRNAs to catalyze a reaction connected with the first step of splicing.
